Some paces were violent and even sexual in nature, I was led to believe this version was going to make the bible more kid friendly, I was wrong. Also the pages were completely crumpled upon arrival.

Great book! If you read the ESV then this is a must have. It is extremely helpful and it has great online tools that come with the purchase of this book.

This contemporary study guide is chocked full of pictures and concise information about passages. Sometimes there is brevity in the depth of the commentary throughout the chapter, but to go further would sacrifice the wide audience this is intended for. Each chapter begins with several pages on background and history and concludes with a summary outline of the book you're about to read. There is plenty of history about the bible, the old and new testament, and various other concerns addressed in chapters in the beginning and end of the book. Overall, the most concise ESV guide I could find, and wonderful pictures to add to your understanding.

I had seen earlier ESV Bibles from Crossway and was unimpressed with the type and layout.
This one is re-set and is way better -- very nicely done. The additional detail and explanation is great, and quite a bit better than other study bibles I have used.
This version is a winner
